The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England, responsible for monitoring, inspecting and regulating services to ensure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety. In April 2015, the CQC was given enhanced powers to prosecute breaches of certain fundamental standards under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
